Police deny gunmen attack another Anambra church

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr Garba Umar has denied that gunmen on motorbike, attacked Assembies of God's church, onitsha, Anambra's state. He made this denial while speaking to journalists on the ugly incident on Sunday, that claimed two lived. He said it was not an attack on the church. “My men were on patrol near the church when they were attacked by some gunmen. It was not an attack on the church, in the real sense of it”. The commissioner confirmed that the hoodlums took away a rifle belonging to the slain cop. Go Round FC Blame referee for loss to Papillo FC

In a match that was almost marred by rainfall, Taylor Adebayor scored in the 82nd minute to give FC Papillo all three points against Go Round FC at the Dan Anyiam Stadium on Sunday. The goal that would likely ensure Papillo FC escape relegation also broke the hearts of Go Round FC who are slowly falling away from the promotion pack. The first twenty minutes of the game was played on Saturday but was disrupted by rains which made the pitch unplayable. On continuation on Sunday morning, the first half ended goaless and just when the Go Round FC bench was thinking they had escaped with a point, Taylor struck. With two players receiving treatment on the sideline and a third down on the pitch, a through ball into the Go Round FC goal area found Taylor who put the ball behind a hapless Niyi Oguntoye in goal. Go Round FC coach, Ngozi Elechi blamed the referee for letting play continue when two of his players were out of pitch injured and another was down in the pitch.

Nigeria to benefit from deep sea mining

The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) Dr. Dakuku Peterside has stated that Nigeria is set to benefit from the deep sea mining through effective harnessing of the opportunities by working with the International Seabed Authority (ISBA). The NIMASA DG who made this known at the opening ceremony of the 23rd Assembly of the International Seabed Authority (ISBA) held in Kingston, Jamaica said that irrespective of the numerous resources in Nigeria, there was the need to work more closely with the ISBA in the area of seabed resources exploration. Dr. Peterside who led the Nigerian Delegation to the event commended ISBA on its role in the optimal utilization of seabed resources among maritime stakeholders and solicited for assistance in the area of capacity building to survey deep sea and establish data base of mineral resources available for the benefit of all mankind.
