Electioneering is obviously on speedlane yesterday as Peoples Democratic Party governorship
aspirant in Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has said the party will erase
poverty from the state if he is voted in to replace Governor Abiola
Ajimobi in 2015.
Makinde made this known at Polo Ground,
Eleyele, Ibadan, while making public his intention to contest for the
position of governor. Thousands of his supporters witnessed the public
declaration event which had a huge presence of security operatives.
He said, “We have lost the moral right
to ask questions about the state of affairs of things from our
government and because people found it difficult to proffer solutions to
societal problems, there is a big imbalance in our society.
This is not
a terrain I am not familiar with because I contested for Oyo-South
senatorial district in 2007 and governorship seat in 2011.
“Due to the need to address the
imbalance, I have decided to contest for the governorship of Oyo State
under the PDP. Our people do not have to live with poverty because this
state is blessed abundantly.”
Makinde also used the opportunity to address questions raised about his actual age.
“I am 46 years old. Great leaders like
Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Bola Ige, Chief Omololu Olunloyo ruled at
about the same age as me.
Also heads of states like Barrack Obama of the
United States, David Cameron of the United Kingdom became leaders of
their country at about my age,” he said.
The aspirant lamented the state of education and agriculture in the state, saying that the state must regain its strongholds.
