LASTMA absolves self from conductor’s death

The management of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has cleared the air surrounding the death of an unidentified bus conductor and therefore absolves itself of any wrong doing.

The incident occurred on Monday at the Rainbow area along Apapa/Oshodi Expressway.
In a statement released by LASTMA, some policemen attached to the agency were trying to arrest a commercial bus which contravened traffic law.

The statement added that as at the time of the incident no LASTMA official was involved in the attempted arrest, neither was an official of the agency at the scene or vicinity of the incident that claimed the victim’s life.

However, immediately after the death of the victim, sympathisers and hoodlums invaded the LASTMA’s zone 30 Cele-Ijesha offices where they unleashed mayhem, destroyed apprehended vehicles, and other valuables within the agency removal yard.

Speaking on the unfortunate incident at the agency’s Headquarters office at Oshodi, the General Manager of LASTMA, Babatunde Edu, enjoined members of the public to always report erring officers of the agency to the appropriate authority for necessary sanction.

He added that the agency has zero tolerance for any act of indiscipline among its staff.

The General Manager said the state government has invested enormous resources on personnel training on basic knowledge of the law on the officers so as to enhance professionalism and efficiency and more so for them to operate within the ambit of the law.

The LASTMA boss commiserates with the relatives of the deceased and assured them of the support of the agency in unravelling the truth surrounding the death of their breadwinner.

He disclosed further that the policemen that were allegedly involved in the matter have been handed over to the police at the Itire Police Station for further investigation into the matter.
