The allocation is said to have been on the rise over the years and represents an average of 71 per cent increment on last year’s allocation. Prof Suleiman Elias Bogoro, Executive Secretary of the agency, who made this disclosure at the opening of a two-day capacity building workshop on the acquisition and management of e-library for librarians in public tertiary institutions, claimed the allocation is to promote and sustain strong learning institutions and build libraries that can support research and teaching missions. Bogoro, who was represented by Mrs. Comfort Oki, further disclosed that the TETFund board has approved a five-year (2014 – 2019) vision for the agency to deepen its focus on academic content, quality and excellence. “As part of this vision, a new department of Research and Development (R&D) and Centres of Excellence (CE) has been created its main objective is to institutionalise R&D in tertiary institutions by supporting the establishment and operations of Research and Development (R&D) in these institutions,” he explained. According to him, the workshop was to enhance the capacity of librarians on the acquisition and management of e-library for efficient service delivery; maximise the utilisation of e-library database; and create access to TETFund library intervention funds. Chairman, Board of Trustees of TETFund, Dr. Musa Babayo, said the agency recognized the importance of library and librarians in facilitating teaching and research activities in tertiary institutions. “It has, therefore, become imperative that we match capacity building programmes to funds allocated for interventions in all tertiary institutions to ensure optimal benefits and maximum impact for the educational sector. “It is our hope that with the strengthening of e-library resources, our collective efforts would support our tertiary institutions to advance to be among the highly rated institutions in the world in line with the vision of the Fund,” he stated.
