PDP behind Edo govt/UNIBEN face-off —APC

Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Edo State, Mr Anselm Ojezua, has called on the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Foluso Adebanjo, to arrest the chairman of the state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Dan Orbih, for using, a faction of the Students Union of the University of Benin to destroy properties belonging to the state.
The APC chairman, in a statement in Benin City, on Thursday, said, “we are aware that Mr Orbih and some leaders of the party sponsored a faction of the Students’ Union to commit arson, by setting fire to a property belonging to Edo State government.
“We are also aware of the plan by Mr Orbih and other leaders of the PDP to inject thugs into the ranks of the students of the university and unleash mayhem on unsuspecting members of the public and further commit heinous crimes all in the name of protest.
“We call on the Commissioner of Police, Edo State, to arrest and interrogate Mr Orbih and other PDP leaders for sponsoring arson and stop their further plan to create mayhem in the state.”
However, in a swift reaction, Chief Orbih said that call on the police to arrest him within 48 hours was borne out of his exposure of the unprecedented fraud perpetrated by the state government.
According to him, “the protests by the University of Benin students have nothing to do with the PDP or Chief Orbih. We are yet to be informed why Governor Adams Oshiomhole decided to turn himself into a local court bailiff and personally execute the court judgment on appeal and Notice of Appeal duly served.
“It was the governor’s action that precipitated the crisis. So, the police should arrest the governor and others to account for his action in ordering the demolition of the University of Benin property,” he said.
