Jonathan Suspends FAAN Director

The Federal Government has withdrawn the letter of appointment of the Director of Finance in the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria,(FAAN) Mr. Tochukwu Bede Uchendu.

In a letter dated  April 27, 2015, and signed by A. A. Tsafe, Director,Human Resource Management, for the Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, read “We regretfully inform you that the letter is hereby withdrawn pending the conclusion of the necessary due process on the matter”.

The letter further directed Uchendu to vacate the office until the “due process” was concluded and formal letter of appointment issued to him.

It would be recalled that the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), early last week, in a petition to the Head of Service of the Federation, called for the sack of two directors in FAAN for irregularities in their appointments by the Aviation Minister.

The former director was a board member of the Consumer Investment Company, believed to be owned by the minister.

The other Director of Commercial was alleged to have granted waivers worth N1bilion to two companies without approval from the ministry or FAAN. A committee set up to investigate the allegations, later indicted him.
