Police kill 4 cross-border robbers in Ogun, arrest 2

Men of Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Ogun State have reportedly engaged a gang of cross-border armed robbers in a gun battle at Itoku Market, Abeokuta, leaving four of the bandits dead and two arrested

The robbers attempted to break into Bureaux de Change shops in the market when the police engaged them in a gun battle.

The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this at SAR’s Office, Magbon, Abeokuta, yesterday, while parading the two suspects.

He said the incident occurred on Sunday at 9:30pm under the newly constructed flyover bridge in the market, while the bandits, based in Ghana, attempted to loot bureaux de change shops in the market.

According to Adejobi, those arrested, Adamu Bamako and Ibrahim Tanko, are not Nigerians and cannot speak English, but Hausa language.

He said the suspects did not have any fixed address and that the command could not identify their states of origin.

Adejobi said the command would take steps to unravel their origin and take vital information from them.

He said the state Commissioner of Police, Val Ntomchukwu, has assured residents of the state of safety of lives and property.
